About Program
The Department of Mathematics offers two undergraduate programs in Statistics, namely, Bachelor of Science (BSc) Statistics – a three-year program, and BSc (Hons)/ BSc (Hons) with Research in Statistics– a four-year program.
The main emphasis of this programme is to provide students with a solid foundation in the theory and practice of statistics. Some of the highlights of this program include:
-
Statistical Foundation: Students in B.Sc. Statistics program will have a strong foundation in statistical theories and practicals.
-
Data analysis: Students will learn how to collect, organize, and analyse data. They will gain expertise in using statistical software packages such as R, Python, MATLAB and SPSS to analyse data.
-
Statistical theory: Students will learn the theoretical aspects of statistics. They will study the courses like probability theory, statistical inference, hypothesis testing, design of experiments, regression analysis etc.
-
Real-world applications: B.Sc. Statistics program emphasizes the practical applications of statistics in the real world. Students will learn how to apply statistical methods to solve problems in various fields such as finance, healthcare, social sciences, and engineering.
-
Elective courses: Apart from getting a minor in a chosen subject. The program offers a range of elective courses that allow students to specialize in a particular area of interest such as physics, economics and data science.
-
Research project: B.Sc. Statistics program often requires students to undertake a research project. The project provides students with an opportunity to apply the skills they have learned in the program to solve real-world problems.
The B.Sc. Statistics program equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become professional statisticians, data analysts, or researchers.
