  • Mission

    • To work towards transformation of young people to competent and motivated professionals with sound theoretical and practical knowledge
    • To encourage students to conduct student projects to develop their analytical and logical thinking.
    • To produce post graduate students with strong foundation to join research or to serve in industry.
    • To make students aware of technology to explore mathematical concepts through activities and experimentation.
  • Vision

    • To be among the best mathematics Departments in the country and to establish an international reputation as a centre for research and teaching in mathematics and also to centre stage Mathematical knowledge in the curriculum; instill analytical and logical thinking among students and promote Mathematical thought as an important area of human thought.
  • About the Department

Department of Mathematics was established since the inception of Dehradun Institute of Technology (DIT) in 1998. Department of Mathematics shares the vision of the University of achieving excellence in teaching and research and committed to succeed in this endeavor. The Department of Mathematics focuses to assist students in acquiring a conceptual understanding of mathematics, its processes and applications. The department is to orient the aspiring students for an overall development to enable them to meet the ever growing challenges of the global society with mathematical tools.

  • Currently the department of Mathematics offers following courses: B.Sc. (Honours) Mathematics, B.Sc. (Honours) Statistics, M.Sc. Mathematics and Ph.D. Mathematics. The aims of our programmes are to develop mathematical interests among students and inspire them to use mathematics as driving tool to solve real world problems. In addition to the core courses in mathematics, we also offer various courses which are based on Computer programming and Statistical Analysis. Emphasis on hands-on learning and inclusion of Statistics based courses increase employment opportunities. Mathematical formulations of real-world problems and their solutions have also been included in the curriculum. It is best suited for the students aspiring for pursuing higher studies and research as their career.

The faculty of the department are highly qualified and experts in their domain of research. Apart from taking regular courses in the department, we also float large number of elective courses to the students in B.Tech., M.Tech., BCA, B.Pharma, Diploma and Ph.D. programmes of the other departments in the university.

  • Facilities

Department of Mathematics has established a Mathematics learning center (MLC) for the students in DIT University. The MLC is be a drop-in centre where a student can walk-in without any enrolment or prior appointment, and discuss any problem related to mathematics with friendly tutors in a purely non-judgmental environment. The center aims to assist students to develop the mathematical knowledge, skills and confidence that are needed for studying mathematics for various courses. The center shall be available to any student who is enrolled for any course at DIT University. The main beneficiaries would be students who do not have adequate mathematical background required for their studies. For example: students who have not studied mathematics concepts which is a prerequisite for other university course; mature age students who have not studied mathematics for several years; students from overseas or other states in the country who may find gaps in their knowledge, or who are not familiar with fundamental mathematical skills; students whose studies have been interrupted due to certain reasons.

The MLC drop-in centre is a relaxed place where you can come to talk with friendly tutors about learning and using mathematics for your coursework.

It is available for all students, regardless of the course you are studying. We exist for students studying courses that are part of a University of Adelaide degree/diploma program, especially if you are needing or using mathematics for the first time.

You don't need an appointment, just drop in! The best thing to do is just sit down somewhere and a staff member will come to you within half an hour. Students can write what course they are doing on blackboards on the tables, so it is a good idea to check the blackboards to see if other students are doing the same course as you before you sit down.

We aim to help you develop...

    • the confidence and skills to learn new mathematics concepts on your own
    • the confidence and skills to solve new mathematics problems on your own
    • the confidence and skills to communicate mathematics clearly on your own
    • the appropriate mathematics background knowledge for your Uni study
  • Department of Mathematics having fully equipped systems in which following software are there:

    • MATLAB
    • MATHEMATICA
    • SPSS
    • LATEX
    • R
  • Career Opportunity:

Career opportunities after B.Sc. (Honours) Mathematics and B. Sc. (Honours) Statistics

With B.Sc. (Honours) Mathematics and B. Sc. (Honours) Statistics students can pursue their careers in research and development, engineering, banking etc. After completion of B.Sc. (Honours) degree, there are various options available for the students: they can go for various masters program such as M.Sc. Mathematics, M. Tech Computer Applications, M.Tech Atmospheric Sciences etc, go for research oriented jobs and can even look for professional jobs which involve mathematical modelling and predictive analysis. Jobs for B.Sc. graduates are not restricted in the field of science but also they can explore other areas like banking, management, engineering, law etc. The job opportunities available for the students are not only great in terms of salary package, but also a satisfying job experience. Apart from the research jobs, students can also work or get jobs in Marketing, Business & other technical fields. Mathematics graduates are also recruited in the banking sector to work as customer service executives and software operations experts.

  • Career opportunities after M.Sc. Mathematics and Ph.D. Mathematics

This course gives Mathematics enthusiasts a chance to develop their mathematical and communication skills and apply critical thinking that would help them to interpret scientific data collected from various sources. This skill set is always a boon to scientific researchers. One can apply in government and private colleges/universities to pursue his teaching carrier. The minimum requirement is M.Sc. Mathematics and UGC-CSIR NET exam for lectureship and JRF. One can go for jobs in prominent national organizations like DRDO, ISRO, NTPC, ONGC and ISS. At the same time one can also look out for the national laboratories and institutes.
